Al Johnson of the Unifics (1948 - 2013) s'en va!

Al Johnson, ce nom évoque, pour mal d'entre nous, Asa Yoelson, le comédien performing in blackface au début des années 40, mais, en cette fin octobre, c'est Alfred Orlando Johnson, co-founder du groupe soul the Unifics,  qui s'éteint à l'âge de 65 ans.
En 1966 le combo se nomme encore  Al and the Vikings (  line-up:Al Johnson, Tom Fauntleroy, Marvin Brown, Bob Hayes,  George Roland).
Seconde identité , Unique Five, pour finalement opter pour The Unifics.
1968, '  Court of Love' scored high in the charts, quelques autres hits ont suivi,  'The Beginning of the End'  -  'It's a Groovy World!' - 'Toshisumasu '...
Le groupe cesse d'exister en 1972.
Al Johnson se lance dans le songwriting et la production, il collabore, e.a., avec The Whispers.
En 1968, il pond un album solo, 'Peaceful' pour ensuite travailler avec Norman Connors, jazz drummer, composer et producer, il chante sur plusieurs titres de l'album 'Invitation'.
Plus tard, il retrouve le chemin des charts avec "I'm Back for More", chanté en duet avec Jean Carn.
  2004, reformation des Unifics, with original member Tom Fauntleroy, un album Unifics Return.
