Ibeyi is a French-Cuban musical duo consisting of twin sisters, Lisa-Kaindé Diaz and Naomi Diaz. The duo sings in English and Yoruba, — a Nigerian language their ancestors spoke before being brought to Cuba by the Spanish to be made slaves in the 1700s — though Lisa’s is the lead voice. Naomi plays traditional Cuban percussion instruments cajón and Batá drum, while Lisa also plays piano.

The Ibeyi sisters both have beautiful voices but ultimately I found them just a little bit dull tonight, too many songs stuck in the same groove and they'd have benefitted from being be a bit more inventive and taking a leaf out FKA Twigs book.
Still, it was a pleasure to hear such wonderful vocals and to see them somewhere so relatively intimate, it was the least regular gig crowd I've been to in aeons and it was the kind of crowd that suggests the big time is imminent (as does "progressing" from the Louis to Trinity in just 9 months).
