A F is a British singer/songwriter from Portsmouth ,a place that already gave us Joe Jackson. This young fellow 's aim is to write good songs based on the musical styles which influenced his life. For years he has been listening to Neil Young and Ryan Adams and that led him to make his own record with personal stories told in twelve songs.Last year Rootstime already noticed the guy had some talent ,we wrote positive reviews about both ep's 'behind closed doors' and 'watching clocks'.
Through his lyrics Andrew manages to share his emotions and feelings so that the listener really gets involved .
The orchestration of the songs is mostly sober , the emphasis is on the nice singing .'Media Ghost' is a well-groomed album which A F recorded & produced himself.
For the 1st track 'Personal Legend' he gives us some mysterious sounds based on sharp electric guitar riffs.Next he chooses the Ryan Adams path (the songs 'Watching Clocks ' & 'You're not the only one').The melodies we hear in 'Ten Green Bottles' (reminding us of the Beatles) or in the intimist ballads 'The Alchemist' & 'For You' are neat ,the lyrics are thoughtful.'The Golden Hour' is an acoustic folkrock tune. It's a swinging track ,which is a relief after all these dark songs.
'Silence' & ' Déjà vu' sound like a young Neil Young (aha aha...): bare songs, played with an acoustic guitar, in which Andrew's marvelous voice and his vocal ability reach the highest peaks.
The last song 'Something to believe in' perfectly summarizes how strong Andrew Forster's talent is .He's got everything you need to become a great singer/songwriter.Some of the titles on the 'Media Ghost' CD can be heard on the ep's he recorded some time ago , maybe to reach a larger audience.Anyway if AF keeps on writing such nice songs we're sure, pretty soon, there 'll be an album with new titles ,and so he'll follow the example of Ryan Adams ,a prolific songwriter and a musical model..
